Roháče Ridge Hike

The Roháče Ridge Hike is one of the most spectacular, but also one of the most demanding high-mountain hikes in the Western Tatras. From Roháčska Valley, the route climbs through Zábrať Saddle to Rákoň and Volovec before continuing along the main ridge across the distinctive Ostrý Roháč to Plačlivé. The crossing of Ostrý Roháč is the most technically demanding part of the hike, featuring exposed rocky terrain with sections secured by fixed chains. The ridge offers extensive views of Roháčska and Smutná valleys, the Roháče Lakes and the surrounding peaks of the Western Tatras. From Plačlivé, the route descends to Smutné Saddle and continues through Smutná Valley back towards Ťatliakova Chalet and Roháčska Valley. This hike is suitable only for experienced hikers in very good physical condition who are comfortable with exposed mountain terrain.
